Coco Newton: Committee Chair
Degree Program: PhD in Clinical Neuroscience
Coco is a 2nd year PhD student and holds a BSc in Biomedical Science from King’s College London. Previously at UCL she worked with the dementia-research gaming app Sea Hero Quest, and was also part of the Centric Lab, an organisation at the intersection of neuroscience in the built environment. Her PhD aims to deliver novel diagnostic tools for Alzheimer’s disease using immersive virtual reality tests of navigation.
Ellie Phelps: Vice Chair
Degree Program: Medicine
Ellie is currently a 5th year medical student. Having completed an intercalated degree in Natural Science during her time at Cambridge, Ellie continues to be interested in combining a future medical career with research. Her current work includes investigating the use of machine learning for medical applications.
Jake Cridge: Publicity and Adminsitration Officer
Degree Program: PhD in Medical Sciences
Jake completed his integrated masters degree (MBiol) in Biological Sciences at Durham University. He is now a fourth year PhD student at the MRC Cancer Unit, within the University of Cambridge. His PhD focuses on the role of the immune system in cancer; specifically, the immune dysfunction that arises in tumour-draining lymph nodes in skin cancers.
Tessa Hughes: Venue Officer
Degree Program: BBSRC DTP in Biological Sciences
Tessa completed her BSc at University College London studying Physics and Molecular and Cell Biology. She is now pursuing a PhD at the Gurdon Institute, University of Cambridge focusing on lung development. Her research aims to identify progenitor cell populations and cell fate decisions in the developing lung, specifically those that contribute to the formation of alveoli.
Rosie Bell: Treasurer and Sponsors
Degree Program: PhD in Chemistry
Rosie is a second year PhD student at the Centre for Misfolding Diseases. Her research focuses on understanding the impacts of post-translational modifications on amyloid proteins involved in neurodegeneration. Previously Rosie completed an MPhil in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge and a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Leeds.
Nadia Capatina: Treasurer and Sponsors
Degree Program: Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine
Nadia completed undergraduate studies in Biochemistry at the University of Manchester, and PhD in Physiology, Development and Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge. Her PhD research focused on the effects of environmental stressors on placental stem cell differentiation and development of pregnancy pathologies. Nadia is taking the clinical course in medicine at Cambridge.
Elizabeth Seger: Start-up Coordinator
Degree Program: PhD in Philosophy of Science and Technology
Elizabeth holds a B.S. in Bioethics from UCLA and an MPhil of Philosophy of Science from Cambridge. She is currently pursuing an PhD at the University of Cambridge. Her research concerns the development and regulation of explainable AI for medical application.
Camille Mba: Early Career Research Officer
Degree Program: Medical Science @MRC Epidemiology Unit
Camille trained as a medical doctor in Cameroon and is an alumna of the GCSRT programme from Harvard Medical School. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Nutritional Epidemiology at the University of Cambridge. Her research focuses on nutritional biomarkers and the link with cardiometabolic diseases and how this can be applied to population-based studies in Africa.
Eric Bringley: Webmaster
Degree Program: PhD in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology
Eric completed his Bachelors of Science in Chemical Engineering (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of South Carolina Honors College (South Carolina, USA) in May of 2016. His research is in the field of combustion and aerosol science where he models the synthesis of titania nanoparticles.
